Self-Acceptance & Self-Improvement

Hello, everyone! For today’s post, I am going to talk about
self-acceptance and self-improvement.
I believe you understand what self-acceptance means since I
have covered it in my previous post (if you miss my previous post, you can
click here), but do you guys understand what is self-improvement?
To make things clear, self-improvement is the act of
learning new things on your own that make you a more skilled or able person
(Cambridge Dictionary, n.d.). It also literally means that we become a better
person through self-improvement.
How can self-improvement and self-acceptance be linked
together?
Here’s an example.
I have always believed that I am not skinny enough to fit in
the society, but at the end of the day, it’s my body. I am the only one who has
control over my body. I often convince myself that it’s not bad for not being
skinny. In fact, I have friends telling me that I’m just curvy with a bit of
meat.
Now, that is my self-acceptance. What about my
self-improvement?
I still exercise whenever I have time because I want to
maintain my body. I train myself to be more confident in my own skin. I try on
new styles to match my body type. I consider myself a plus-sized person, but
that doesn’t stop me from trying new clothes.
That is how I portray self-improvement.
Self-improvement leads to you having more power in that you
are capable of achieving more, and in that you are more impervious to
psychological or physical attacks. This means you gain more freedom through
self-improvement. (Thomas, n.d.).
When you accept, you improve. That is what you have to
remember.
That’s all from me. See you later!
Much love,
Farzana
